My Mother and Grandmother
My Grandmother could sing, and my mother could not. My grandmother therefore is the gift that allowed my voice to have a code of potential in it and yet my mother developed my bhakti yoga practice so that my voice may carry substance and depth of my true self and Divinity.
Both of these women are my original gurus, they gave me all my potential and all the encouragement I needed to break from the idea that a woman could not sing. I pray I have the voice of my grandmother and the heart of my mother.
